Surgery went well, 2 weeks in a cast then I had 17 stitches removed and am now wearing a brace as needed (mainly at night due to night terrors and misc movements).Thanks everyone for clearing up my confusion. I see where and why the error was raised but so far, nobody has taken a stab at why it worked before and now doesn't.
I will implement the new code example given to me (thanks Dan) once I heal up and can type again (hand surgery 4/19 to relocate my ulnar nerve and associated artery due to a work accident last summer. Life a bit chaotic right now)

I just added a wifi dongle to the Pi in my garage. Apparently the problem is in the bullseye distribution...next steps are to copy all the vital code off that card and nuke it to start over...then file transfer all files back onto the new os.
